Rare 16th century Bronze pillar candlestick
Rare 16th century Bronze pillar candlestick
This rare 16th century bronze candlestick, also known as a French pillar candlestick, features a solid cast stem that is riveted to the base. Finished by turning, the bronze has developed a beautiful warm patina over time. For further reference, please see The Lear Collection, a comprehensive study of copper-alloy socket candlesticks by Christopher Bangs, No.95-96. The height is 20.3 cm (8 inch) and the width of the base is 14.6 cm (5 3/4 inch). The condition is very good given its age, with only minor nicks.
